Spotlight on… Robin Wyllie, MS, CCC-SLP, Director, Neuro-Rehabilitation Program

Robin Wyllie is Sargent Center’s Director of the Neuro-Rehabilitation Program. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree from Rhode Island College in Physical Education, Robin realized that she wanted to pursue a degree in speech-communication. She attended the University of Rhode Island and received a second Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication Disorders. She also received her Master of Science degree from the University of Rhode Island in Speech-Language Pathology. Robin is a member of the American Speech & Hearing Association (ASHA).

Robin’s career as a Speech-Language Pathologist began at Sargent Center in 1989. Sargent Center was her first career after graduate school. At the start of her career at the Center, Robin provided speech/language services to children in the day school as well as to adult clients in the brain injury program. As the day treatment programs of Sargent Center expanded, Robin became a full-time speech-language pathologist for the brain injury program. Robin knew the minute that she worked with individuals with traumatic brain injuries that this was what she was meant to do.

In 1995, Robin was acknowledged by her peers and was the recipient of Sargent Center’s Special Recognition Award. Robin was cited for her contributions to the neuro-rehabilitation team approach. In 1999, Robin was promoted to her current position of Director of the Neuro-Rehabilitation Program. In her role at Sargent, Robin supervises, trains and supports the neuro-rehabilitation staff; case manages the course of evaluation and treatment for clients; coordinates team and client-family meetings; conducts admission screenings prior to eligibility determination; and presents determination for eligibility to the Center’s intake-utilization review committee.

Robin enjoys working within an interdisciplinary team environment at Sargent, sharing and learning new treatment strategies that impact outcomes for individuals with brain injuries. She also enjoys interacting with clients and families in team meetings. Robin is inspired by all of the clients as they persevere to regain skills they’ve lost because of an injury or illness. She is amazed at how hard adolescent clients work in order to achieve academic and functional success and is equally awed by the courage of adult clients. She is rewarded when she sees how clients, who struggled when they first began in the program, leave to go back to work, school and to find new ways to make their lives productive.

Sargent Center is pleased to highlight the work and expertise of Robin Wyllie.
